Indoor Air Purifier
Indoors is not the safe location that it appears, especially if the person has allergies. With dust on every
surface, dust mites in all the furniture, mold hidden in the deepest, darkest parts of the house, pet dander from otherwise innocuous pets, and the myriad allergens in a household environment, the house can be a very threatening environment, especially if your allergies are severe.
Because of this, allergy sufferers are looking for ways to clear the air and breathe easier. An entire industry has sprung up to help them, and there are myriad ways to eliminate a a good portion of the problem.
The three basic ways are HEPA filters, ionic air purifiers, and ultra-violet air purifiers. It should be noted that this methods by themselves will not work if basic precautions (such as keeping the house clean) are not kept up on.
HEPA (an acronym for “High Efficiency Particulate Air” or “High Efficiency Particulate Absorbing”) filters form the basis of most methods of air purification. In essence, the air is drawn into the air purifier and forced through a HEPA filter. By doing this, most of the allergens are removed from the air, to be tossed with the filter. HEPA filters are derived from WWII nuclear experiments, invented as a way to handle radioactive dust, and eliminate from the scientists’ workspace.
Ultra-violet air purifiers work by drawing the air into a chamber and then exposing the air to germicidal ultra-violet light. The air is the released with ozone to take care of impurities outside the purifier and negative ions to remove the impurities from the air. As this is the recommended method of sterilization by the medical field, it has proven to be very effective.
Ionic air purifiers are perhaps the most effective as the combine a number of different methods into one. They draw into the purifier and through a HEPA filter to eliminate particulates; the filter is then hit by ultra-violet to make kill any biological residue, and keep it from infecting the air. Then ozone and negative ions are pumped into the air. The ozone breaks impurities down, and the negative ions cause the impurities to be attracted to surfaces, taking them out of the air. Although arguably the most effective, it’s not advised for those with severe allergy problems.
Just be advised to consider all options before deciding on one. There may be an optimal solution for all of your problems if you just look around!
