Room Air Purifier
Parents are always looking for better ways to safeguard their children from diseases and other medical
complaints. Also, with people living longer and staying at home in their later years, airborne pollutants are an issue. And with AIDS/HIV and multiple chemical sensitivity cases on the rise, being able to create a room that is safe from disease can be a matter of life and death. Fortunately, all of these problems have easy solutions.
Building a “safe room” is just a matter of planning and equipment. A safe room is a room that has been secured from airborne pollutants such as bacteria, viruses, pollen, dust, mold spores, pet dander and hair, and chemical pollutants. It is set up to provide an area that is either safe for anyone with a compromised or otherwise limited immune system, or is away from outdoor pollutants in an area that has been severely polluted. The two major items that are important are using positive pressurization (increasing the pressure in the room greater than that of outside the room) to force pollutants out of the room through natural cracks in the room and ensuring that the room’s air is purified. Both of these require a way to pull air from another source, which is supplied by a duct kit.
An air purifier is usually included with the duct kit, as it easier to purify the air as it comes from whatever source rather than to purify the air in the room itself. Also, it ensures that the air in the room will be clean and therefore safe for the person in the room. As the duct kit forces air into the room, it creates a greater pressure in the room than outside (the positive pressurization effect).
The specific type of duct kit needed depends on what kind of limitations you are facing in creating the safe room. If you are facing limitations such as space limitations, trying to keep the noise out of the room, or you need the control outside the room then an outflow duct kits is the best choice. Keep in mind that a wall or window vent needs to be built to use the outflow duct kit.
Inflow ducts are useful when you wish to draw air from another room (so the air is at room temperature for comfort reasons) or you don’t face the limits that require an outflow duct.
Either way, a safe room can be built using minimal preparation and tools, and maximum safety for the intended person. Add a personal touch, such as toys, paintings, and books, and the room can be a truly safe harbor in most storms.
